Respiratory
Asthma
Asthma is a common long-term, reversible lung disease. Certain triggers cause the linings of the airways to become inflamed (reddened, irritated and swollen) which may produce mucus. The muscles that surround the airways become sensitive and start to twitch and tighten, causing narrowing of the airways inside the lungs, thus constricting the airflow.
Each person with asthma has different triggers, symptoms and severity of the disease. There is no cause or cure for Asthma, however with education and proper prevention you can live a normal healthy life.
COPD
(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which are long term lung diseases usually caused by smoking. The airflow is chronically obstructed in the lung passages causing shortness of breath (dyspnea) and often a productive cough and wheeze.
Your COPD is in a state of delicate balance. A simple illness like the common cold can cause an acute worsening of symptoms and you may become quickly debilitated.
COPD worsens slowly over time. There is no cure, but how fast it progresses, varies from person to person. What precautions you do to slow it down can make a huge difference in your quality of life, such as medications, exercise, preventing respiratory infections and quitting smoking.
We can teach you how to control your COPD with proper breathing, prevention and lifestyle education that will enable you to perform your activities of daily living and live life to its fullest.
